The Government of Azerbaijan said on May 16 it mulls to start cooperation on information and communication technology (ICT) sector with Chinese firm Huawei, according to Market Research Azerbaijan.
Azerbaijani Economy Minister Shahin Mustafayev met James Chen, Huawei’s President for Central Asia and Caucasus Region, during his visit to China recently.
The cooperation will oversee ICT sphere which is expected to strengthen and develop economic ties between Azerbaijan and China, Market Research Azerbaijan reported.
During the visit with Azerbaijan delegation, Mustafayev also discussed the prospect of cooperation development with China’s CAMC Engineering Co. Ltd Vice President Chen Yufang.
The ICT sector is among Azerbaijan’s crucial spheres for its economy’s further development as well as an integral part of economic and political reforms which are going forward in the country.
Azerbaijan, a regional leader in the ICT sector, also plans to expand its international cooperation to further advance the sector. Market Research Azerbaijan projected the ICT could generate US$ 9 billion incomes by 2020.
Trade turnover between Azerbaijan and China valued to US$ 395.56 million in January to April, with around US$ 183.79 million of which accounted for the export to China.
China is a huge opportunity and a priority market for Azerbaijan. Both countries have signed more than 50 agreements.
China and Azerbaijan have great potential in energy, transport, in high technology and tourism.
